Friday, October 6: Preview performance at AOP in Brooklyn

Gulliver's Travels, commissioned by American Opera Projects, premieres in 2019

The composer and conductor Victoria Bond has long been fascinated with Jonathan Swift's book Gulliver's Travels. And now, Victoria Bond has been awarded a commissioning grant from Opera America's Opera Grants for Female Composers program to compose an opera based on this iconic 18th century satire.

Gulliver's Travels, with music by Victoria Bond, libretto by Stephen Greco and design and direction by Doug Fitch, will change your perception of this hilarious and often vicious probe into human foibles. Gulliver, the intrepid voyager, puts out a fire using his bodily fluids, engages in a love scene with a giantess more than twice his size and is put on trial by horses.

Gulliver's Travels will receive its world premiere by the Gulf Coast Symphony (Florida) in 2019. New Yorkers can be the first to see the opera in a workshop performance on Friday, October 6 at 8:00 pm. The performance features soprano Ariadne Greif and tenor Scott Joiner, among others, and is followed by a meet-the-artists reception. Complete cast and production details are below. The performance is at American Opera Projects, 138 South Oxford Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the door (cash only). Advance tickets are available online; space is limited.

This workshop performance of Gulliver's Travels by Victoria Bond is co-presented by American Opera Projects and Gulf Coast Symphony, in association with Welltone New Music, Inc.
